Good day. I'm greeting you from Guatemala.

I've had Triquel Etiona installed for years, and now (2026) I notice that some features aren't working very well. I'm referring to, for example, QMMP, Pidgin, Abrowser (accessing certain websites), and the Printer Manager (or codecs). It won't even let me update specific programs.

Is it possible for me to update my Triquel myself, in 2026, to a newer version? I don't know, for example by updating the repositories? Or some trick like those that you patojos handle so well.

I await advice and recommendations with humility and a desire to learn.

From the front page: > Trisquel 10.0, codename "Nabia" is finally here! This release will be supported with security updates until April 2025. Additionally, an upgrade to the "Etiona" release (v9.0.2) is also being published today, providing updates and corrections to the installation ISO images.

I think you can update to Aramo and then if you want to Ecne , which is not official yet.

Remember to back up!

You can update your system by doing a reinstall.
Or try to use the below command to update to Aramo:

sudo do-release-upgrade

I hope that helps.

Note that Trisquel Etonia was the last Trisquel release to support 32-bit x86 devices. You can run `uname --hardware-platform` to check whether your device is 32-bit. If it says "x86_64", then you should be able to upgrade. If it just says "x86", then you probably need to switch to a different operating system.

If do-release-upgrade doesn't work, you might have better luck with these commands: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/trisquel-11-update-fails#comment-171620

Making a backup first is a good idea regardless.

About pidgin: what are you using it for? If you use it for jabber/xmpp, and if the upgrade works, you could try using gajim instead, which probably is better maintained than pidgin.
